Polegate Windmill was built in 1817 for Joseph Seymour, who was a relatively local man of means. The beautiful mill then spent well over a century in service, providing for the local people and stimulating the industries of the region. The mill is now open to the public, and visitors can see the inner workings of the machinery, as well as browse through the purpose built education room.
