Ramsgate, a town on the Isle of Thanet, has one of the largest marinas on the English south coast. There are two main annual events, the Powerboat Grand Prix and the Ramsgate carnival. Ramsgate Maritime Museum near the harbour has exhibits devoted to East Kent maritime history. Regency and Victorian architecture is much in evidence in the town.

  If you think that Ramsgate is all about cross channel travel then you're only half right. Correct, there is a ferry service from the port, but the area has a wealth of other stuff to do. I personally enjoy a walk along the cliff top and look down into the wonderful harbour with all the gin palace yachts and motor boats and then sample some excellent freshly caught and cooked seafood in the restaurants.   - Patrick Boniface
