In 1940 the skies above Britain became a battle ground as the British Royal Air Force took on the German Air Force in what became known the Battle of Britain. The outnumbered Royal Air Force eventually prevailed due to the great bravery and skill of its airmen. Many of the aeroplanes that took place in this battle took off from the Biggin Hill Airfield which has a replica hurricane standing outside it, the exact plane that was used in this military victory.
