The River Medway flows for 112km, the longest river in Kent. Now recognized as Maidstone's best asset, it is the venue for the town’s biggest annual event. The Maidstone River Festival draws hundreds of boats and thousands of spectators to the town at the end of July every year. Other River attractions include the Millennium River Park, which extends for 10km, and Elemental, a series of riverside artworks. The river can also be explored by boat – trips leave from the Archbishop’s Palace.
