We love the Sandwich Festival, which is normally on at the end of August. There’s always...

The thing I noticed about Sandwich is how charmingly crooked and olde world the town is, with wonky streets and historic buildings all piling on top of one another. Hard then to believe that this quaint little town by a river in Kent was once Britain's fourth city! It is true though and all because it used to be one of the country's premier ports trading with the continent. Now it's quiet and quite lovely.

Most famous for being the place where the sandwich was created, I instead chose to eat fish on my visit. I could have chosen any number of excellent restaurants or pubs in this wonderfully quirky and ancient port as there are a great many to chose from. If you get a chance go inside the Guildhall Museum and one of the town's medieval churches, you won't be disappointed.
