Sir John Cordy Burrows is one of the most famous names in the history of Brighton. A great statesman in the 19th Century it was under his leadership that the town grew during Victorian times to being one of Britain's premier tourist and cultural hotspots. Burrows was three time mayor of the town and was so well liked and respected by his peers that this statue was erected by public subscription after his death in 1878.
