Hastings is an ancient town full of history that extends far beyond the famous battle at which William the Conqueror entered the town and marched to London to proclaim himself king. Seagate, which once stood on this site was one of the most significant entrances to the old town. Through this gate it is thought that many of the most famous and important people entered from the sea and a plaque commemorates this.
