This monument is one of the few military commemorations of the main sea front in Hastings. The impressive obelisk was erected in the early 20th Century as a commemoration to the many brave men who lost their lives in the wars in South Africa that took place between 1899 and 1902. The monument is one of the centrepieces of war memorial proceedings every year.
