Spencer Compton was the 1st Earl of Wimmington and a significant statesman and politician from the aristocracy from the 17th Century. He was of importance in the Whig Party and took a leading role in their policy making and affairs of government for twenty five years of his life and he in fact was so committed that he died in his job.
