St Andrew’s is known as the “Shepherd’s Church”, and with good reason as it is nestled at the foot of the scarp north slope of the South Downs, surrounded by fields often grazed by sheep. The church is tiny and thought to date from the 13th Century. It has no electricity but is lit by candles for services. One of its many features includes hooks to which sheepdogs could be tied. Much restored throughout its history it is still used as a place of worship today.
