St Margaret’s Bay is a charming little village, perched on top of the white chalk cliffs, a few miles from Dover. St Margaret’s has a number of shops and restaurants, as well as pleasant hotel and bed and breakfast accommodation. A steep road, with exciting hair pin bends, leads down to the shingle beach and car park. The village is about a mile from the South Foreland lighthouse, which protected mariners against the perils of the Goodwin sands for many years. We visit St Margaret’s regularly, as the children love rock pooling down on the beach. It’s an excellent choice for walkers, beach combers and those wanting a restful coastal break.   - Jasmine Park

As an avid fan of Ian Fleming I just loved the fact that one of the houses on the seafront at St Margaret's Bay was once owned by him and another by Noel Coward. That aside the area is gorgeous and is one of only a handful of beaches in Kent with a rocky foreshore ideal for rock pooling, another passion of mine. A lovely pub cum restaurant is right on the beach and an ice cream kiosk for the kids is open in the summer time. The price of car parking can be quite steep, but there are free places nearby which I recommend.   - JA
