The history of St Martin’s Church in Detling has always been linked with the turbulent history of England. The church at one time belonged to Sir Thomas Wyatt, who led a rebellion against Queen Elizabeth 1st and was executed. His property, including St Martin’s church, was forfeited to the crown. Today the church is a peaceful place of worship and reflection and central to the life of the small village of Detling just outside of Maidstone.
