This pretty church’s structure looks much newer than its history would suggest, the result of a fire in 1989 that destroyed all of the building except the 14th Century tower and the Stockets Chapel, paid for and named after the then owners of Brasted Place. The church contains a Saxon coffin lid that was discovered inside the wall of the chapel whilst restoration work was being carried out during the Victorian era. Experts believe this indicates the presence of a church on this site in Saxon times.
