The construction of Ashford’s Southern Orbital Road in the late 1980s and early 1990s cut the parish church of St Marys at Sevington off from the rest of the village and nearby town. Today drivers on the busy highway see the church in open fields, which is probably how the Saxons who founded the village saw it too. The church was added to by the Norman invaders, who noted its location in the Doomsday book.
