The small, picturesque village of Compton near Guildford is surprisingly filled with historic sites. St Nicholas Church is one of Britain’s most outstanding examples of an Anglo-Saxon church which has retained many of its original features including its tower. Inside the church there is a wood screen that is thought to be the oldest surviving example of such timber work left in Britain. The Chancel also has some early graffiti of a Knight Crusader and the church also houses a stained glass window from the 13th Century.
