For over 850 years St Nicholas Church in Portslade has been an essential part of the local community. The church started life around 1150 as a small Norman building on top of the hill overlooking the small village of Portslade and because of its location near to the English Channel it was dedicated to the Patron Saint of Sailors, St Nicholas. In keeping with other Norman churches in the area St Nicholas Church has been extensively modernised but traces of its 11th Century heritage can still be seen.
