St Peter's church has a history spanning 900 years. Evidence of past centuries includes Roman tiles on the tower, a Norman font and stonework and a medieval nave and stained glass windows. The 20th century is represented with a rood of 1922, which remembers Willian Henry Bolton and soldiers who did in World War I, and a fine window of 1904 by Sir Ninian Comper. Many of Canterbury's mayors are buried in the church and outside in the churchyard.
