This statue was erected to celebrate the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria, one of the greatest and longest serving monarch in British history. Victoria enjoyed visiting Brighton like so many other people of the Victorian age, as it was the nations premier holiday resort. Her influence as Queen of Britain and Empress of India cannot be underplayed as she built a huge empire for Britain the effects of which can still e seen today.
