In 1962 sailing enthusiast in Whitstable and nearby Tankerton came together to form a sailing club that took advantage of the excellent sailing waters off the North Kent Coast and formed the Tankerton Bay Sailing Club. Today the club is still in its original location towards one end of Tankerton slopes and is housed in a small yet comfortable club house that boasts areas set aside of boat maintenance and storage as well as a welcoming bar.
