The Buttermarket is today the hub of al fresco Canterbury. Visitors are drawn its by cafés, restaurants, pubs, street entertainment and some of the City's finest architecture. The finest of all is Christ Church Gateway, the ornate Tudor entrance to Canterbury Cathedral. Others buildings date back to medieval times at least, and probably even further, with Roman flint having been found in a cellar here. Beyond the Buttermarket is a network of lanes packed with unique shops.
