The Devil’s Punchbowl is a naturally occurring crater in the earth just outside Hindhead in Surrey. Legend has it that the hollow was created by the devil who, in order to annoy the god Thor, threw large amounts of earth at him thereby leaving a gaping hole in the ground. The Punchbowl is a spectacular sight and particularly enjoyable for those who like strenuous walks. The walk down is easy but the walk back up takes a great deal of stamina!
