The great dramatist, Christopher Marlowe, was born and educated in Canterbury. The theatre named after him presents a varied programme of live entertainment, from hit West End shows to Christmas pantomimes. Ballet, contemporary dance, opera, concerts and comedy can be seen here too. The Theatre also hosts outdoor events around the city throughout the summer. Venues include St Augustine's Abbey and Goodnestone Park Gardens. The Marlowe Theatre is owned and run by Canterbury City Council.
