Many men from the seaside resort of Bexhill on Sea went to serve in the First World War never to return, for them a permanent and striking War Memorial was erected on the seafront. The memorial comprises of a woman with laurel leaves on a tall tapering column. The monument was unveiled to the public, who paid for it, on 21 November 1920 with the names of those lost in World War One on it. Names of those lost in the Second World War were added in 1946.

	This war memorial is one of the most striking and memorable ones I have seen. It looks out to sea and commands one of the most central locations on the seafront; almost commanding you to stop, look and think about the sacrifices of the men whose names are forever immortalized upon the walls. Stirring stuff that makes one think about loss and sacrifice. - Peter Hendricks
