Brighton West Pier is one of the most historic elements of the Victorian seaside resort. It was unfortunately ravaged by fire in 2003. Since then the foundation that have set themselves up to look after the interests of the pier have been desperately trying to find a large restoration grant for the structure. It was built in 1866 with the final new building being added in 1916. The pier was therefore stuffed with antiquities many of which were saved by the trust before the fire. It forms a striking part of Brighton's sea-line.
