The ’White Cliffs of Dover’ need little introduction and are known throughout the world. Situated in the southeast corner of Kent, the cliffs are the first glimpse of England gained by many international visitors travelling from continental Europe. Best viewed from the English Channel, the cliffs are made from chalk deposits that were characteristic of the Cretaceous period and have provided an ideal defence against invading armies for thousands of years.
