The climb to the top is worth it for the spectacular views it offers of the River Thames. Whilst at the summit visitors can also admire a warning beacon introduced by Richard II and last used during the Spanish Armada, and view the results of the Zepplin bombing raids during World War I. For those who prefer a less energetic outing, there are some pretty ornamental gardens to wander round, the centre piece of which is the memorial to those Gravesend residents who lost their lives during the two World Wars.
