Winston Churchill purchased Chartwell House on the edge of Westerham in 1922, and apart from the periods that he spent in 10 Downing Street, lived there as his family home for the rest of his life. He was therefore a celebrated local figure and this statue was designed by Oscar Nemon to be displayed publicly and celebrate the greatest Prime Minister Britain has known. The statue stands on Yugoslav stone gifted by Tito.
