Worthing in West Sussex is one of Britain’s finest seaside towns and at the heart of its attraction is the magnificent Victorian Worthing Pier. The first pile was driven into the English Channel in its construction on 4 July 1861 to a design prepared by noted Victorian architect Sir Robert Rawlinson. The pier opened to the public just under a year later on 12 April 1862. In 1913 the pier succumbed to a storm but was subsequently repaired for future generations to enjoy.

My wife and I enjoyed a day out in Worthing recently and we both wanted to wander along this great Victorian pier. Whilst it might not have all the bells and whistles of modern computer type attractions, it had charm and character and sometimes it's all about who you are with when you experience something old and sentimental like Worthing Pier that is important. - Ben Hallam
