Located between Cardiff and Swansea, Aberavon was once a municipal borough but it has now merged with Port Talbot. Much rebuilding took place in the 1950s and there are modern shopping malls. In the graveyard of St Mary`s Church is the grave of Dic Penderyn (Richard Lewis), a miner who was hanged in 1831 for a murder he didn`t commit.
