Barry Castle was built in the 13th Century and was under ownership of the de Barry family. This Norman earthwork castle now restored and landscaped, had a large hall and gate house added to it's original structure in the 14th century. The castle also boasted a portcullis and an authentic drawbridge. The castle stands proud on top of a small hill just outside the village of Barry and although fairly small in stature, it is an interesting ruin steeped in local history.
