Big Pit is one of the best mining museums in Britain. It is situated in Blaenavon which has been designated a World Heritage Site due to its huge contribution to the mining and iron industries. Visitors to Big Pit are taken on a tour with a miner underground to where the coal used to be extracted and witness at first hand what life was like for miners. There is also a multimedia tour, displays in the Pithead Baths, and colliery buildings are now open. Admission is free and there is car parking available.
