Cardiff is the largest city in Wales and it is the capital. Its expansion started in the 19th Century with the building of docks to export coal from the Rhondda. There are many fine buildings, including a castle, a cathedral, canopied arcades, museums and theatres. The Senedd, the home of the National Assembly of Wales, stands on the waterfront near the Norwegian church.
