Dinefwr Castle is a romantic ruin perched on a crag high above the Tywi Valley. In medieval times it was the seat of the rulers of Deheubarth, south Wales. There was a small township on flat ground nearby. Edward 1 captured and enlarged it, and in the 18th Century the castle was deliberately altered into a romantic ruin for visitors. The only way to reach Dinefwr Castle is by walking to it by footpath from Llandeilo, or from the car park in Dinefwr Country Park. The superb views from the site make the effort worthwhile.
