Freshwater West is a spectacular west-facing beach backed by sand dunes. The main attraction of the beach is for its excellent surfing; it is home to the Welsh National Surfing Championships. The water here is in totally pristine condition and home to many species of birds, seals and fish. The beach is owned by the National Park and is designated a site of Special Scientific Interest with lots of rare butterflies. Facilities are basic but include toilets, and car parking. There is an exceptional surfing school.
