Standing on a prominent ridge, overlooking the River Gwendraeth, Kidwelly Castle is more complete than many Welsh castles. Built by the Normans in 1106 it formed a link in a chain with other castles along the coast. Today, the very imposing structure remains a dominant feature of the town. From the first moment the massively powerful Gatehouse is entered, there is so much to see, the large towers to climb, wall walks from which to enjoy the marvellous views, and damp, dimly-lit dungeons to investigate. Very enjoyable, and wonderfully atmospheric.
