Kidwelly is a small town located on the Gwendraeth Estuary south of Carmarthen and it has a well preserved castle which dates from the 12th Century. There was also a Benedictine priory here and its church still survives. Before the estuary silted up, Kidwelly was a busy trading port. The town was also known for its tinplate industry.
