When visitors visit Laugharne they are usually drawn by its connection with Dylan Thomas. Laugharne, however, has much more to offer than the writer’s boathouse as the castle standing on the Taff river estuary proudly attests to. Laugharne Castle has an eventful history and was originally a Norman castle. The castle was rebuilt in stone by the de Brian family during the 13th and 14th centuries until it was partially destroyed during the Civil war. The ruins that survive today are the result of twenty years of restoration and well worth a visit.
