This is a medieval church of great character. It is dedicated to St. Meugan, who was a larger than life character, said to have been a poet and the wizard Merlin’s teacher. In front of the church is the shaft of an ancient preaching cross, partially destroyed by the Puritans in the seventeenth century. The huge yew trees in the churchyard are well over 2,000 years old and probably planted here by druids. The church is well signposted from the village of Pencelli, which is on the B4558 half-way between Brecon and Talybont-on-Usk.
