Llangorse is the largest natural lake in South Wales, one mile long by half a mile wide. It is used for fishing (you can hire boats for the day) and a variety of watersports, such as sailing and windsurfing, but is also a haven for wildlife, particularly great-crested grebe. The lake attracted settlers from ancient Celtic times onwards; there is an Iron Age inspired Visitor Centre. It is the subject of many legends, such as that a town lies under the waters, and church bells can be heard under the waves during stormy weather.
