Pembroke Dock in South Wales was once a Royal Navy Dockyard and it is therefore unsurprising that a great many men from the town lost their lives in the two World Wars. The Memorial Park was created to honour these men and was opened on Saturday 2nd May 1925 by Lady Meyrick wife of General Sir F C Meyrick. The park comprises a large area of ground set out with avenues of trees and lawns, plus areas for the playing of sports notably tennis and bowls.

This park is the largest in Pembroke and is really quite pleasant. I visited when it was cold and there was frost on the ground, but even in mid winter the place had a nice feel about it with large areas of open space and trees. A bowling club and tennis court dominate one area and on the bottom edge of the park is the local general hospital. Fortunately the latter was not required on my visit. - Christine Jamieson
