The Newport City Live Arena started its life as an Odeon cinema and is the only example of classic Art Deco style to be found in Newport. It was designed by the architect Harry Weedon and was built in 1938. After being closed down in 1981, the building was left empty for many years and was then used as a snooker hall. It wasn’t until 2003 that the building was bought and fully restored to become a live music venue. The building also has a screen for live sporting events and has played host to the Newport born-and-bred Goldie Lookin’ Chain.
