The massive remains of Ogmore Castle stand on the south side of the Ewenny River at its junction with the Ogmore River about three miles south of Bridgend. The original castle was a wooden structure built in the early 1100s by the Norman knight William de Londres and was later replaced by a stone building including a three storey keep. It was one of three castles built in the area at that time as a defence against the Welsh. A chain of 52 stepping stones link the castle to Merthyr Mawr on the north side of the Ogmore.
