Pembroke is known for its magnificent Norman castle which stands on a rock above the town`s streets and the river. Inside the walls is a large round tower 80 feet high. The town has some Victorian buildings while on the opposite of the waterway is Pembroke Dock where many ships were built in the 19th Century.

There are definitely two parts to Pembroke, the ferry port, oil refineries and industrial side and the historic side, which boasts one of the best castles in the country. For families I'd chose the historic side with a wealth of welcoming bed and breakfasts and attractions but if you're going to Ireland then the ferry port is something of a must.   - Charles Mason
