There are definitely two parts to Pembroke, the ferry port, oil refineries and industrial side and the historic side, which boasts one of the best castles in the country. For families I'd chose the historic side with a wealth of welcoming bed and breakfasts and attractions but if you're going to Ireland then the ferry port is something of a must.
