Penarth Pier was built in 1895 mainly due to Penarth’s involvement in the paddle steamer trade across the Bristol Channel. The Waverley and Balmoral paddle steamers still call at Penarth and are a popular activity for tourists in the summer. The pier was restored in 1998 and hosts a range of entertainment in the summer. There is a Victorian charm to the pier and the sea-front at Penarth that provides visitors with relaxation and enjoyment. Fishing is also permitted free of charge on the pier.
