The recently restored Pierhead Building in Cardiff Bay is a beautiful reminder of the history of Cardiff’s dock area that has been transformed from one of the world’s most important ports, Tiger Bay, into a modern, waterside development that cleverly juxtaposes new and old architecture. The red brick building, which is Grade 1 listed, was designed by William Frame and was built in 1897. While the exterior of the landmark is an experience in itself, there is free admission into the building for visitors to see the Visitor and Education Centre for the National Assembly of Wales, the new building for which is located alongside the Pierhead Building itself.
