Sker House is a medieval building built by monks over nine hundred years ago. It stands on the windswept coast of Porthcawl and is reputed to be one of the most haunted buildings in Wales. It was made famous by Victorian novelist RD Blackmore when he heard a true story about the Maid of Sker, Elizabeth Williams - a young woman who was imprisoned there until her death, for falling in love with a roving minstrel. People believe that she haunts the house and that if you see her it is an omen of bad luck.
