St Fagans Castle, which is actually an impressive Elizabethan manor house, was built in the late 16th century and was donated to the Welsh people by the Earl of Plymouth. It is now the principle attraction in Wales’ most popular and successful museum, the open-air Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans, and is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens that include a knot garden, rose garden and herb garden. Inside the castle, visitors can see at first hand how the aristocracy of the era lived and the large kitchen is particularly spectacular.
