There has been a church on the site of the present building since the 11th Century although most of the present structure dates back to the 14th Century. It is in possession of many sculptures and monuments and its collection is said to be one of the best of a parish church in Britain. One of its most important artefacts is a huge 15th century wooden sculpture of Jesse, the father of King David. It is the only one made of wood in Britain and is carved from one piece of oak.
