Tenby Castle dates back to the 12th Century although the sole surviving tower and walls date back to the 13th Century. The tower commands views across both the North and South beaches, the harbour and, of course, the sea. Caldey Island is easily visible from the hill on which it stands as is the North Devon coast on a clear day. The walls that are still in existence are the most complete in Wales. Inside the castle is a watch-tower which is positioned at the highest point of the headland and was used to spy possible enemies.
