The Roman Amphitheatre in Caerleon, the Roman Fortress of Isca, in South Wales is the best preserved in Britain. Excavations began in the 1920s which showed that the amphitheatre used to be a timber superstructure. Legend has it that the amphitheatre was the site of King Arthur’s Court of the Round Table and that Caerleon was indeed Camelot. Today visitors can freely wander around the impressive remains and gain an insight into the rich Roman history of this part of Wales.
